HEALING WATERS, Inc

Mobile Showers to Restore Dignity to the Homeless

A Registered Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Organization

Banning, CA

Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:1-2

Healing Waters, Inc. (HW) operates from the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Banning, at 157 Nicolet Street. HW provides hot showers, clean clothing, and other related services with the intent of restoring dignity to the homeless and indigent. The shower unit is sanitized after each user, and each guest is provided with a sanitized towel, washcloth, soap, and shampoo. On Tuesday mornings, showers are given at the on-site built-in shower in the Ministry Center. A mobile 2-unit shower truck provides the showers on Tuesday afternoons at the Set Free location, and Friday mornings at St. Kateri. The mobile shower truck carries 100 gallons of water, which is heated by a generator, and provides up to 22 showers.

Who We Are

Our History

Healing Waters, Inc. (HW) was established in May 2019 as an all-volunteer organization made up of compassionate individuals with a shared vision and commitment to the homeless. Father Dominic Vu, from The City of God, provided the seed money to implement this vision. Freedom in Christ Church (FICC) was in the process of building a mobile shower unit, and HW contracted with them for its use twice a week, at a location accessible to the homeless. In December 2019, HW was Incorporated and became a 501(c)3 non-profit company. Local churches and communities supported HW and provided volunteers to assist in running it. For optimal use, access to the showers was set at locations and times to coincide with the distribution of hot lunches by other organizations to the homeless and indigent.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to provide hot showers and other support services to the homeless and indigent, to restore their dignity, to heal their broken spirits, and bring about wholeness and self-worth through love.  Cleansing the body is a basic hygienic need taken for granted by so many, but unavailable to the homeless. We are intentional in hoping that with the grace of God, our services will be a catalyst for positive change and render healing on many levels.

What We Do

At our two locations in Banning, we pray with our guests, and our prayer circles are inclusive and personal. We listen to their stories, and help them connect to available local, city, and county resources for housing, social, medical, and mental health services. Complementing the showers, haircuts, new underwear and socks, clothing, toiletries, seasonal items, and other supplies are given to help our guests stay safe on the streets. Once a month, a medical team runs a clinic. Job training and placement is possible through the Salvation Army. Bicycles and mobility equipment are given to the homeless based on need. HW participates with other local organizations in planning special events for the holidays, and generates and fulfills a Christmas wish list for 80-100 homeless and indigent guests each year. Non-perishable food bags, laundry services, laundry cards, and bus tickets are additional services available to our guests. We continue to seek partnership with organizations that provide meaningful services that will reduce homelessness.
